Who is the current world chess champion
Chess is an amazing little game. It seems so simple theory, and for the most part it is, but the applications
involved are so incredibly complex that it really does take a special mind to it all.
Looking at the origins of the game, it is not difficult to see why.
Scholars and historians believe that chess was created in the fourth century by a mathematician in India. He
created a board game that would aid in the development of military strategies for centuries to come. He called this
game Chaturanga, and it greatly resembled the game of chess we know and love today.
The king was so profoundly impressed with the tactical training mechanism that he offered to reward the inventor
with anything in the kingdom. To his surprise the brilliant young mind requested a grain of rice for the first of
the sixty-four squares on the board. On the next square he asked for double the previous square, and so forth
double the previous square for every square.
The king was confounded when he came to the final square only to discover there was not enough grains of rice in
the entire kingdom to fill it. This serves to briefly explain the strong depth of logic and strategy involved with
chess and why it is such an amazing game for players of all skill levels. It develops cognitive thinking abilities
in logic, planning, and flexibility, as well spatial thinking and our notions of fear, truth, perspective, beauty,
honor, and justice. Not only is it an intellectual game, but it is also an emotional experience, as trying to
protect your respective King can become a completely personal vendetta. It truly is a one of a kind experience.
There have been many superior chess players throughout history.
The most notable of these, is perhaps Bobby Fisher, whose life was transformed into a big screen biography. His
troubled life, but brilliant game play did indeed make for big box office draw, but it was his continued
contribution to the way we play the game of chess that make stand out above many others. To answer the question,
“who is the current world chess champion?” we need only look at the World Chess Championship of 2007, where
Viswanathan Anand came out victorious. In 2008 he defended his world title against Vladimir Kramnik and still ranks
as the #1 player in the world.
