Comparison between Novag Citrine vs Oberon Chess Titans

Perfect Technologies

Since chess is a game played by as many people as there can be and admired for its logic and the almost military-like tactics, even when played by the most amateurish players, it has of course been transferred into machines and computer programs. One of the most famous and most thoroughly updated, upgraded and developed is the Novag Citrine. It is a computer based electronic chess game by a company known by the name of Perfect Technologies ltd. It can also be seen named as Citrine Electronic Chess Board or Novag Citrine ECB. Both ways of naming depend on the version of the given product. This electronic chess game was first released in 2006.

Oberon Chess Titans

Another very popular and preferred digital way of playing chess is Oberon's Chess Titans. This is a game included in all Vista Home Premium and Ultimate editions as well as the Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions, although in Windows 7 Professional it has to be additionally installed. It is a graphic program, with a 3D possibility of the board. The played can chose different themes and rotate the chessboard at will. It can be played with a mouse as well as with a gamepad.

Oberon and Novag Comparison

Although the two might seem alike, there are some differences that will make a real player prefer the one instead of the other.

First of all there is the feeling of the interface and game play of the two. Novag Citrine provides the user with a simplified and wooden vision of the board and pieces. With its detachable LCD, the front-running menu system and the auto-sensory mechanism this product makes us transport to an almost natural, real game of chess. In the Chess Titans by Oberon we have a really glassy surface, a modern and technologically mastered 3D animation and graphics and the possibility of a theme. It might not be as pleasant for the senses as the natural wood of the first product, but it can really make chess a contemporary-looking, fantastic option to pass the time or train your abilities with a colourful appearance. As for the overall gameplay abilities of both the products we must note that for the Titans it is a lot better playing with some kind of a gamepad such as the Xbox 360 for Windows or the PlayStation 3 one. The only thing that should be taken into account for the Citron is that there are some things in the manual that can be understood with much difficulty so the user should maybe better try and learn than read and learn. The player vs. computer and the two-player modes are quite alike with the differences that Citron Novag's auto sensors are a big plus. Chess Titans allows you, on the other side, to automatically turn the board at 180 degrees when the player changes and highlights all possible moves for the selected piece. Both options can also be turned off.
